The Gang‑gang Cockatoo is one of south‑eastern Australia’s most distinctive and charismatic birds — small, stocky, slate‑grey, with that unmistakable wispy crest, and in males, a scarlet head that looks almost hand‑painted. Although these guys are waterproof and UV resistant, they do suffer when poked with a sharp object. Aim to stick it somewhere where it’s not likely to rub with something sharp, like the end of a hiking pole.
